Context
Reaching the halfway point of the WP Credits program has been a valuable learning experience both technically and personally. During this journey, I have gained a deeper understanding of the WordPress community, learned how its contribution teams work, and actively participated in the Polyglots team by contributing Spanish (Costa Rica) translations.
At the same time, documenting my progress on my personal website has helped me reflect on everything I have learned while experiencing the collaborative nature of an open-source project.
Progress So Far
At this stage, I have successfully completed all the lessons in both the Onboarding and Project sections of the program. These lessons gave me a much clearer understanding of how the WordPress community is organized and how contributors collaborate.
I also created and customized my personal website, published the required reflection posts, and completed my first translation contributions through the Polyglots team. Each milestone has helped me build confidence while improving my understanding of WordPress and open-source collaboration.
Challenges
The main challenge I have encountered so far is that several of my submitted translations are still not reflected on my WordPress.org contributor profile.
After discussing the issue with other WP Credits participants, I realized that it was not limited to my account but appeared to be a temporary issue affecting multiple contributors. Although this initially caused some uncertainty, it also helped me better understand the review and approval process used by the Polyglots team.
What I Learned
Throughout the first half of the program, I have learned much more than simply how to submit translations.
I now have a better understanding of how an open-source community works, the importance of collaboration, and how even small contributions can make a meaningful impact on the WordPress ecosystem.
In addition, I have become more confident using community tools and documenting my learning journey through my personal website.
Reflection
Looking back, I am proud of the progress I have made so far. While I still have a few activities left before completing the program, I feel that I have built a solid foundation for future contributions.
For the remainder of the program, I plan to continue translating, complete the remaining reflection posts, and finish WP Credits with consistent participation and continued learning.
